The Studio Loft transforms a turn-of-the-century textile warehouse in Williamsburg into a combined creative studio and living space. The project preserves the building's industrial character — exposed timber trusses, cast-iron columns, and original brick walls — while introducing a series of precise insertions that define living, working, and gathering zones.
A freestanding blackened-steel volume houses the private quarters, its exterior serving as a gallery wall for the open studio beyond. The kitchen and bathroom cores are expressed as minimal white boxes, their clean surfaces contrasting with the rough textures of the existing structure.
North-facing clerestory windows flood the studio with even daylight, while a new south terrace — built within the original loading dock — extends the workspace outdoors. The mechanical systems are concealed within the new insertions, leaving the original ceiling structure fully exposed.
